These windows come from the Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust page of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, checked on 7 October 2026. The page is undated, so confirm on TTD's site close to your visit. Some websites describe the service as running round the clock; TTD's own page lists fixed meal windows, and that is what this guide follows. This is an independent information site; it is not run by TTD.
Tirumala anna prasadam timings (TTD)
The free meal service at Tirumala is run by the Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust, part of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). TTD's Annaprasadam Trust page lists three meal windows, with a short gap between lunch and dinner.
| Meal | Time (TTD) | Menu (TTD) |
|---|---|---|
| Breakfast | 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM | Upma, Pongal or Vermicelli upma, with chutney |
| Lunch | 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM | Chakkara Pongal, curry, chutney, rice, sambar, rasam and buttermilk |
| Dinner | 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM | Same as lunch |
Menu by meal
Breakfast is a single light dish with chutney: upma, pongal or vermicelli upma, depending on the day. Lunch and dinner are full South Indian meals of rice with sambar and rasam, a curry, chutney and buttermilk, plus Chakkara Pongal, the sweet rice dish cooked with jaggery. That is the full TTD annaprasadam menu on its page; it does not list separate menus for festivals, so any special items on big days should be treated as extras rather than something to count on.
If you are checking Tirumala free food timings, the gap between lunch and dinner, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, is worth remembering if you come out of darshan in the late afternoon. For what to collect and carry home from the temple, such as the laddu and other prasadams, see our Tirupati prasadam guide.
Where free meals are served at Tirumala
Many pilgrims only know the annaprasadam complex in Tirumala, but TTD lists several serving points. The figures below are the number of pilgrims TTD says each point serves; they are given on an undated page, so read them as an indication of scale rather than a current count.
| Serving point | Who it serves | Figure on TTD page |
|---|---|---|
| Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba Annaprasadam Complex (MTVAC) | All pilgrims in Tirumala; the main dining halls | 55,000 pilgrims on weekdays; 65,000 and above on weekends |
| Vaikuntam Queue Complex | Pilgrims waiting in the queue compartments for darshan | 40,000 to 45,000 (weekday to weekend) |
| PAC-II Annaprasadam | Pilgrims at the Pilgrim Amenities Complex | 8,000 on weekdays; 10,000 on weekends |
| Food counters | Pilgrims near Rambagicha bus stand, the Central Reception Office and the Pilgrim Amenities Complex | 6,000 to 8,000 per counter on weekdays; 8,000 to 10,000 on weekends |
| Tirupati (outside Tirumala) | Pilgrims in Tirupati town | Several points, each about 2,000 to 6,000 (e.g. Srinivasam and Vishnu Nivasam complexes 4,000 to 5,000) |
| Tiruchanoor (outside Tirumala) | Pilgrims at Tiruchanoor | 3,500 to 5,000 |
Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba Annaprasadam Complex
The Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba Annaprasadam Complex is the main free dining complex in Tirumala and the place most people mean when they say "annaprasadam". A 2015 TTD news report describes four dining halls, each seating about 1,000 pilgrims per sitting.
Vaikuntam Queue Complex and PAC-II
Pilgrims waiting for darshan inside the Vaikuntam Queue Complex are served food in the queue compartments, so you do not have to leave the line to eat. TTD's 2015 report also mentions food being distributed in the queue lines and along the footpath routes. PAC-II, at the Pilgrim Amenities Complex, has its own annaprasadam point.
Food counters
TTD lists five food counters. Three are named in full: Rambagicha bus stand, the Central Reception Office and Pilgrim Amenities Complex-I; the other two appear only as abbreviations (HVC and ANC). These are useful if you arrive in Tirumala and need something before heading to your room or the queue.
Planning a meal around your darshan slot
Your darshan time decides which meal you can fit in. TTD's Tirumala annaprasadam timings give three simple rules:
- Morning darshan (finishing before about 10 AM): you can still make breakfast, which closes at 10:30 AM, or wait for lunch, which starts at 10:30 AM.
- Midday or afternoon darshan: the lunch window is long, from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM, so this is the easiest meal to fit in.
- Evening darshan: dinner runs until 10:30 PM. If your slot ends late, check the time as you come out.
| You come out of darshan around | Next free meal (TTD window) | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| 8:00 to 10:00 AM | Breakfast, until 10:30 AM | Go straight to the complex; breakfast is the shortest window |
| 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM | Lunch, until 4:00 PM | The easiest meal to fit around a midday slot |
| 4:00 to 5:00 PM | Dinner, from 5:00 PM | This is the gap between lunch and dinner; plan for a short wait |
| 5:00 to 10:00 PM | Dinner, until 10:30 PM | Check the time as you leave; service ends at 10:30 PM |
| After 10:30 PM | None until breakfast at 9:00 AM | Eat before your slot if it ends late |
If you are inside the Vaikuntam Queue Complex for a long wait, the food served in the compartments may be your main meal. Families with young children or elders may prefer to eat at the complex before joining the queue. For a full day-by-day plan that fits darshan, meals and sightseeing around Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, see our two-day Tirupati itinerary.
On peak days, such as during major festivals, TTD can change how and where meals are served. Check TTD's announcements before you travel rather than relying on normal-day timings.
History: from the 1985 scheme to the Vengamamba complex
TTD's own account, published for the scheme's 30th anniversary in April 2015, traces free food at Tirumala back to Tarigonda Vengamamba, the 18th-century poet and devotee who pioneered annadana on the hill. The modern scheme, then called the Venkateswara Nithya Annadanam Endowment Scheme, was started by TTD on 6 April 1985, when N. T. Rama Rao was Chief Minister.
The present dining complex, named after her, was inaugurated on 7 July 2011 by President Pratibha Patil and built at a cost of Rs 33 crore, according to the same TTD report. A May 2016 TTD news item records breakfast being added to the menu at the complex. The serving figures in that 2015 report are now more than a decade old, so treat them as history rather than today's numbers.
| Date | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 18th century | Tarigonda Vengamamba pioneers annadana in Tirumala |
| 6 April 1985 | TTD starts the Venkateswara Nithya Annadanam Endowment Scheme |
| 7 July 2011 | President Pratibha Patil inaugurates the Vengamamba complex (Rs 33 crore) |
| April 2015 | TTD marks 30 years of the scheme |
| May 2016 | Breakfast menu begins at the complex |
Anna prasadam vs the temple's prasadams
The word "annaprasadam" is used in two ways at Tirumala, and it helps to keep them apart. The free meal at the Vengamamba complex is food served to pilgrims. Separately, the temple offers cooked rice dishes to the deity as naivedyam; Wikipedia's article on the temple lists annaprasadams such as chakerapongal, pulihora, miryala pongal, kadambham and daddojanam. Those are temple offerings, not the dining-hall menu.
The Tirupati laddu belongs to a third category: the famous sweet prasadam that pilgrims receive or buy after darshan. The laddu has its own guide: see our Tirupati laddu prasadam guide.
Common mistakes when planning meals at Tirumala
- Assuming food is served at any hour. TTD's page lists fixed windows. After 10:30 PM there is no listed meal until breakfast at 9:00 AM the next day.
- Forgetting the afternoon gap. Lunch ends at 4:00 PM and dinner starts at 5:00 PM. Coming out of darshan at 4:15 PM means a wait, not a missed day.
- Expecting the main complex to be the only option. If you are already in the Vaikuntam Queue Complex, food reaches you in the compartments. Near Rambagicha bus stand or the Central Reception Office, the food counters are closer.
- Mixing up the free meal and the laddu. The meal is eaten on site; the laddu is the prasadam you take home.
- Relying on old figures. Serving numbers quoted online, including TTD's own 2015 report, change over time. Use them to understand scale, not to predict how busy the halls will be on your day.
- Donating through middlemen. Anyone offering to "arrange" an annaprasadam donation or a serving slot for a fee is not TTD. Use TTD's official channels only.
Donating to the Annaprasadam Trust
TTD accepts donations to the Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust, including sponsorship of a full day or a single meal. The amounts on its page are large and are aimed at major donors; smaller contributions should be checked directly with TTD.
| Donation | Amount | Privilege |
|---|---|---|
| One complete day | Rs 44 lakh | Donor's name displayed; chance to serve in the complex for one day |
| Breakfast for one day | Rs 10 lakh | Donor's name displayed; chance to serve in the complex for one day |
| Lunch for one day | Rs 17 lakh | Donor's name displayed; chance to serve in the complex for one day |
| Dinner for one day | Rs 17 lakh | Donor's name displayed; chance to serve in the complex for one day |
TTD's page gives the trust's email as [email protected]. Donate only through TTD's official channels; this site does not collect donations.
